Mid-century ceramic trivet produced in the 1960s by Villeroy & Boch.
The central tile features a heraldic illustration of John de Warenne (1286–1347), Earl of Surrey and Sussex, shown on horseback wearing a blue and yellow diamond-patterned coat of arms, the historic colors of Surrey.
The glazed ceramic tile is set inside an ornate gold-tone metal frame, combining decorative metalwork with functional tableware, typical of European interiors from that period.
Originally designed as a heat-resistant trivet, the piece works just as well today as a small serving base, countertop accent, or wall-mounted decorative object.
Part of Villeroy & Boch’s historical knights series, which depicted medieval figures through bold, graphic illustrations.
A practical object with a strong 1960s character.
